HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A SEAL SO IT DOESN’T BECOME A PROBLEM

When a document has a seal, the quality of its rendering depends directly on how well you photographed it. A poor photo of the impression almost always turns into a headache during the final stages.

▪ What matters when shooting:
- use side (oblique) lighting to reveal the relief of the seal
- take several shots from different angles — straight on and with a slight tilt
- keep the background neutral so it doesn’t blend with the color of the seal
- avoid using flash — it flattens texture and volume
- shoot in macro or get as close as possible while maintaining sharp focus

A seal isn’t just a decorative element. It’s an important part of the document that often undergoes separate verification.

A BAD CLIENT PHOTO ISN’T A DEATH SENTENCE

People often send photos that make you want to reject them right away — blurry, poorly lit, taken in a hallway on the go. But it’s not always necessary to ask for new ones. Sometimes you can still pull a workable version out of such material.

▪ What can realistically be saved:

- weak or uneven lighting (through color correction and local adjustments)
- minor skin imperfections and small artifacts
- average sharpness (with proper sharpening and texture work)
- imperfect angles (through light perspective and proportion correction)

▪ What almost always kills the case:

- heavy blur and “soapiness”
- very low resolution
- strong facial distortion from wide-angle shots
- completely destroyed lighting (deep black holes or blown-out areas)

The main rule: don’t try to turn a bad photo into a perfect one. The goal is to make it good enough to pass verification.
