What is Carding?
Carding refers to the unauthorized use of credit card information by cybercriminals to make fraudulent transactions. - Verification: The validity of the stolen credit card information is tested through small transactions.
- Exploitation: Validated cards are then used to make larger purchases or sold to other criminals.
- Monetization: The purchased goods are either resold or used for personal gain, and stolen data is often sold in bulk on underground markets.
Methods of Obtaining Credit Card Data
- Phishing: Deceptive emails or websites that trick users into providing their credit card details.
- Data Breaches: Hacking into databases of companies to steal large volumes of credit card data.
- Skimming: Devices attached to ATMs or point-of-sale systems that capture card information during legitimate transactions.
